Hindu pilgrims prepare for a dawn boat ride on the Ganges river.
If you tilt your computer screen just the right amount, you can see the faint outline of another boat in the distance. I'm not sure why people find it necessary to wake up at ridiculous o'clock - it's a nautical term - to take a boat on the Ganges. Often the morning mist makes it difficult to have a view. But so is life and a lowly photographer wakes up just as early to capture the action (sigh).
Geese navigate between boats full of Hindu pilgrims.
It seems as of recently (verified by what I've read) the local authorities are making efforts to clean the holy Ganges river to the point where now it is no longer a septic cesspool. The pollutants and waste products dumped into the holy river where pilgrims bathe in and drink from (gasp) was well known. Incredibly enough, on this last trip, I saw small schools of fish finding refuge in the shade of a small rowboat.
